Leader vs. Manager…

December 23, 2008

1. What is the difference between a leader and a manager?
I think that the difference beween a leader and a manager is the positional look of the person. By that, I mean that a manager is just a term given by a boss to someone who meets the minimum requirements for the position, but might not be the best at managing a team. A leader is someone who knows how to direct a team to do what is required in an authorative but encouraging way and sets examples for the team to follow.

2. Name a leader and why do u think that they are a leader.
I think that my general store manager, Jessican Pounds is a leader. She has a way of running the store and directing the employees to do the work required, but she does it in a way that is encouraging and doesn’t make us think that she is abusive and tyrannical.

3. What kind of leader or manager do you see yourself as and why?

What I learned about marketing…

December 3, 2008

I once thought that marketing was just about finding a billboard and posting an ad for a product or service. But now I see that there is more to it than just that. I learned that you have to find out who is going to be interested in you product or service and focus  on advertising to that group. Not many people over 60 are going to be interested in a nightclub meant for young adults. I also learned that you should focus on the key selling points of your product or service, that way you aren’t boring the potential customer with a long list of reasons they should purchase your product or sevice. Finally, I learned that you should use different media types to advertise product. If you focus on just one type of media, you might lose out on potential customers because not everyone uses every media outlet.
